On the left you'll see the average quality construction today: a 2x6 wall, wood-based, made from 3/4" Build-Rite, 1/2" Build-Rite, 1/2" OSB, typical R-19 insulation, House Wrap, and Siding. The Energy-efficient home uses the intelligent 2x4 wall to create a warm wall cavity, moving the dew point into the Styrofoam, thus diminishing the chance for decaying wood products. The SEEFI home's wall is made with 1-1/2" Styrofoam Insulation (R-7.5), R-13 Insulation, House Wrap and Siding. This keeps the frost and dew points out of the home. The Energy Heels also vary: normal construction uses 7-1/4 inch, our Green homes use 14 inch.
